E-MAIL SYSTEM ADMINISTRATOR – University Systems Group
The University Systems Group (USG) provides enterprise mail, web,
identity, research computing, and other UNIX-based services to the Tufts
community. USG seeks an individual with a demonstrated ability to
quickly absorb and integrate new information to fill its available
E-Mail System Administrator position.

The E-Mail System Administrator will provide system administration
services focused on operation, maintenance, and improvement of
electronic mail systems supported by the USG, including supervised
development of automated and manual support procedures as well as
maintaining general and vendor-specific skills and knowledge of e-mail
systems. She/he will also contribute to the development and upkeep of
other systems, tools, and processes used by the USG to provide
electronic directory services and generalized platform support services.
The successful individual selected for this position must be able to
communicate clearly and build good working relationships with co-workers
in USG and in other groups and departments within and outside TCCS.

The successful applicant will possess three to four years of experience
as a system administrator with at least one commercial version of the
UNIX operating system, preferably Sun Solaris at version 8 or higher. A
Vocational/Training or Associates degree is required. An understanding
of TCP/IP, IMAP, SMTP, SSL/TLS, LDAP, and DNS or the ability to learn
them on the job is also required. The selected candidate must have
experience writing scripts to support system administration functions in
Perl and Bourne shell. Familiarity with the use of small databases in
(e.g.) MySQL to support system administration functions, or the ability
to learn this skill on the job, is also required. The ability to
communicate technical issues to less technically focused audiences is
essential. The successful candidate must also be able to manage the
dynamic tension of event driven, problem solving oriented work versus
longer term project work, and be able to make visible progress on all
fronts.
