SENIOR NETWORK SYSTEMS ADMINISTRATOR – Tufts Computing & Communications
Services

*Position schedule is Monday – Friday 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., plus
on-call responsibilities and maintenance windows from midnight to 2:00
a.m. as needed.*

The position of Senior Network Systems Administrator within the Tufts
Network Engineering group is responsible for the build, maintenance, and
security of Solaris and FreeBSD application servers supporting the
mission of the NOC. This includes, but is not limited to, the following
applications: ISC’s BIND and DHCP, MySQL, Nagios, Cricket, RANCID,
Juniper’s NSM, Net-SNMP, Apache, Nessus, Exim, and development
environments for Perl and PHP. He/she is also responsible for
application and server environment troubleshooting; architectural design
and testing of new or expanded services; University internal consulting
with other IT support groups; NOC desktop maintenance; and project
management.

This position requires a Bachelor’s degree and five to seven years of
relevant experience. The successful candidate must possess expert level
skills in administering and securing Solaris and FreeBSD servers in a
production environment. Candidates without substantial professional
experience on these specific operating systems and supporting hardware
will not be considered. In addition, the candidate should possess expert
level knowledge of the operation of DNS and DHCP, with experience
administering and configuring the ISC BIND and DHCP servers in a
large-scale production environment. Experience with DDNS and DNSSEC
would be ideal. Knowledge of and experience with Sun’s Jumpstart and
CFengine would also be a plus. This position requires frequent
high-level troubleshooting of complex systems, and the successful
candidate should be able to demonstrate both expert level knowledge, and
a systematic, analytical approach. The successful candidate must be able
to work well within a team, mentor junior teammates within his/her area
of expertise, and also collaborate with technical peers to develop
superior solutions. Professional experience with IDS, firewalls,
routing, switching, or load balancing would be helpful, specifically as
it pertains to NetScreen, Foundry, Cisco, and F5’s product lines. This
is an “on-call” position and requires 24x7 response on a rotating
schedule shared with other NOC staff.
