You can probably simulate that, if it makes you more
comfortable.

Also, many servers, switches and routers now have SNMP
accessible thermistors built in. The ones which measure
intake temperatures are likely to be reasonably useful
as an approximation of ambient air - the others are, of
course, for measuring component smoke risk.
