UNIX Administrator

Position available in Maynard, MA

As a result of continued demand for our products and services, Translations.com is looking to expand their office conveniently located in building 6 of Clocktower Place in downtown Maynard, MA.  We are looking for a client-focused, self-motivated UNIX Web Engineer to join our "startup within an established company" and work on a product with explosive growth. You will be working on website projects for major Fortune 500 companies. Your work will directly impact live websites of our worldwide client base.

Requirements, Education and Experience:

 *   BS requires, BSCS highly desired or equivalent work experience
 *   Fluency in English a must along with excellent verbal and written communication skills
 *   Solid understanding of Apache web servers, HTTP/HTTPS, web server tuning, and log reporting tools required
 *   Fluent with UNIX command line, vi or emacs (UNIX scripting a plus)
 *   Comfortable with Subversion/SVN or a comparable version management system
 *   Must possess a sense of urgency and the ability to work under pressure
 *   Must be self-directed, possess excellent time management skills and a strong business sense
 *   Possess a high degree of pride in quality work
 *   A willingness to work off hours (24/7) to accommodate our customer's needs
 *   Detail oriented and a commitment to results

Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

 *   Design and implement a monitoring system to monitor hundreds of live websites and dispatch alarms as needed
 *   Design and implement a benchmarking system to evaluate our software as new versions are produced
 *   Write Subversion triggers
 *   Write Subversion reports
 *   Write script to streamline routine processes
 *   Completely take over certificate generation and installation across our clusters and dozens of clients that use SSL
 *   Apache configuration and tuning, including managing many virtual hosts
 *   Install or fix "yum" or "aptget" so that we have a consistent way to manage Linux packages across our clusters
 *   Fix sendmail on a few hosts
 *   Migrate SVN repository from its current location to a new location
 *   System configuration management, especially with "puppet"
 *   Logging: configure, logrotate, rsync to gather logs, and Splunk
 *   Subversion: routine maintenance, management, and configuration, including authorized access control
 *   Building, configuring, and ironing our inconsistencies on VMs (Virtual Machines) for VMWare
