DATACOMMUNICATIONS PROJECT MANAGER - University Information Technology

This position’s schedule is Monday – Friday, 7:00am – 3:00pm.
The Datacom Services group is responsible for all Voice and Data 
activations, moves, adds, and changes, on all three Tufts campuses. The 
Datacom Services group is also responsible for: the Tufts student CATV 
system on the Medford campus, the field side installation and 
troubleshooting of network equipment, the maintenance of the fiber and 
copper back bone infrastructure including installation, termination, and 
repair as well as the installation and maintenance of wireless access 
points. The Datacom Services group seeks an individual with strong 
knowledge of operating principles of communications systems and 
components as well as a focus on customer service to fill its available 
Datacommunications Project Manager position.

The Datacommunications Project Manager is responsible for coordinating 
all facets of any project where University Information Technology (UIT) 
is required or affected by the scope of the project, including: planning 
and preparing and distributing RFQ´s (Request For Qualifications), 
hiring and coordinating site reviews with contractors and in-house 
staff, recommending and installing the best application for the end 
user, preparing design prints, maintaining records, working closely with 
other Tufts groups and attending project meetings, and working closely 
with the Datacom Manager to provide progress updates.

BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
•	High School diploma/GED
•	Minimum of three years of related experience
•	Valid driver’s license
•	Experience in the telecommunications industry installing, terminating, 
troubleshooting, and maintaining twisted pair copper cable, coaxial 
cable, and fiber optic cables
•	Ability to distinguish colors and interpret blue-prints
•	Attain and maintain a BICSI RCDD certification
•	Knowledge of wireless technologies
•	Ability to use a computer and basic Microsoft office software 
including CADD
•	Ability to understand and be familiar with current TIA/EIA standards, 
national electrical code, and BICSI standards
•	Basic knowledge of UPS operation and maintenance
•	Multi-tasking concurrent project schedules and deadlines; occasional 
domestic travel for training and certification purposes

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: BICSI RCDD, TPMA Certification, PE or 
Associates degree in Mechanical Engineering is preferred.
