OSX-friendly tools are what I'm looking for, but given the level of interest at the meeting, I'm sure people would love to hear about any good tools that do the job. Bonus points in my case if the project/product can read Microsoft Project files.

I’m not using anything in my current job, but last year I had pretty good success with Omnigroup’s OmniPlan <http://www.omnigroup.com/omniplan> on MacOS X. It was able to read and write documents with formats compatible with MS Project. Also reads outline files, so you can produce a list of tasks without getting caught up in dates, et..

Merlin for Mac <http://www.projectwizards.net/en/merlin/> has a very good reputation for managing complex projects, but I have never usedit. Again, can exchange files with MS Project — I think that’s a basic requirement in a commercial project planning and management tool.
