If you look at the specs, I think the BackUPS has a much shorter
runtime at a given load compared to the SmartUPS models.  I.e. they're
meant to run your home systesm through a short outage, not a longer
one.  

We used to use the Matrix 5000 UPSes at a former job with the extended
battery packs, just so we could run for 30-45 minutes at a time if
need be.  Didn't always make it, esp when it took 15 minutes to shut
everything down...
