IMHO, both seagate & WD are about equal. They leapfrog each other from year
to year. The important thing to check is the length of warranty. At one
time, they both offered either lifetime or 3 yr warranty on all their
products, but that's in the past.

Subject: [BBLISA] External backup drives - Survey

I'm looking to price out 500 GB external USB drives for backing up
standalone systems. If the drives have fireware, etc connections, it'll
simply be a nice touch. I plan to get Retrospect for software, so I only
care about drive reliability and company support should _anything_ go wrong
with the drive.

I've had excellent mechanical success with both Seagate and Western Digital
drives, and want to get list consensus as to which company has the better
drive reliability record. I plan to stay away from LaCie and Maxtor.

Thanks.

Scott
