[BBLISA] Residential energy inquiry

I used to be of the opinion that any scheme for fixed utilities like energy
(gas, electric) that essentially, just allowed you to change who sent the bill,
was dubious at best. Then it occurred to me that the entire CLEC industry
exists almost entirely as a way to avoid Verizon (or rather ILEC) business and
billing.

While I don't know what one might do with unbundled gas or electric services
(doesn't seem like many options for different protocols, etc as there was for
telecom), I think it is a much better idea than it seems at first. Without
divestiture and CLECs, ATT would still be charging 20 cents per minute for long
distance, if not more. And we might still think that X.25 and Frame relay were
really cool technologies, since there would be little or no way to innovate new
stuff unless ATT bought it.

I suspect that by sending your bills somewhere else, innovation in energy supply
might occur, which might be more than worth the few dollars you save on the
switch.
