The Broad Institute or Harvard and MIT is seeking a Senior Systems
Administrator to take technical ownership of its 1,000 node compute
farm. <br>

<u><b>SENIOR SYSTEMS ADMINISTRATOR (TEMPORARY POSITION)- Req. #591<br>
</b></u><br>
REQUIREMENTS<br>
<br>
* Candidate should have prior experience managing large scale
infrastructures where automation is key. Cfengine (version 3)
experience is a big plus.<br>
<br>
* Expert understanding of all dimensions of the Linux (RHEL /
CentOS) operating system. A candidate must be able to speak
comfortably about network services (NTP, DHCP, DNS), file systems,
firewalls (iptables), kernels (stock and custom compiled), and
service management.<br>
<br>
* Expert understanding of network (LAN routing, subnets) and file
storage technologies including NFS, SAN, CIFS.<br>
<br>
* Scripting / programming skills are a must. Bash scripting is a
minimum, perl or python desirable.<br>
<br>
* Understanding of SQL database systems and concepts.<br>
<br>
* Knowledge of VMWARE a plus.<br>
<br>
* Diagnostic / debugging skills including use of strace, gdb, and
tcpdump.<br>
<br>
* Must be able to communicate effectively with technical and
non-technical audiences.<br>
<br>
* Must be a self-starter with the ability to work independently and
in a team environment<br>
<br>
* Excellent time management and organizational skills<br>
<br>
<br>
OVERALL RESPONSIBILITY<br>
<br>
Administers computing and/or data storage hardware supporting IT
services at the Broad. Responds to requests for support, explains IT
concepts and policies, and follows established IT procedures.<br>
<br>
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES<br>
<br>
•Install, provision and deploy new computing hardware and associated
software<br>
•Participate in implementation of new infrastructure projects<br>
•Monitor systems for normal operation, security, performance and
success of backups<br>
•Automate routine repeated tasks through scripting or other means<br>
•Assist in the development and delivery of user documentation and/or
training<br>
•Document administrative procedures and issue resolutions<br>
•Perform off-hours work as required to accommodate production
requirements or respond to high-priority service requests<br>
•Other tasks as required <br>
