TechTarget Role Description

Position:  		Systems & Networks Administrator

Role Definition:	 

Manage servers and SANs based upon Sun Solaris and RedHat Enterprise Linux as well 
as the underlying network architecture based upon Cisco and Nortel which drives our 
network of web sites.  Monitor overall performance and capacity, tune system for 
performance and administer user access, security and back up.  Ability to research, plan, 
and implement new technologies as needed.  Three years sysadmin/netadmin experience 
required.   Experience with Veritas NetBackup a plus.

*Ability to manage and architect SANs based upon EMC and STK technologies
*Ability to multi-task with projects of varying priority


Reports To:		Director of IT Operations, Product Systems

Required Experience:	

Must have prior responsibility for administration of Solaris, Linux, and IOS.  
Extraordinary knowledge of installing, upgrading and optimizing Solaris, Linux, SANs, 
and Cisco equipment within a sophisticated computer network. Ability to manage mail 
subsystems (sendmail/postfix), DNS (BIND 9), and other day-to-day activities.

Initial Mandate:

1.Conduct systems audit, present findings and make recommendations.

*Security – passwords, user accounts, auditing
*Analyze configuration parameters – memory size, system usage, network utilization
*Document systems and network configuration

2.Plan and install systems and network hardware, sized and tuned for optimal throughput and 
reliability.

*Evaluate disk spacing and resize/add data files

3.Ensure service performance through established metrics and audits.

*Implement upgrade and recovery strategies
*Serve as liaison with vendors; report problems and obtain technical solutions
*Tune systems and network infrastructure
