The Tech team leads many of our social activates here at Rue. Geek is the new black. This role reports to the Manager of Technical Operations.

Linux Administrator

The Linux Systems Administrator will be part of a team that is responsible for architecture, design, administration and maintenance of all Linux-based servers, storage and underlying infrastructure for the Rue La La web-based e-commerce site.  The Linux Administrator (LA) will perform both basic and advanced Red Hat Linux administration tasks. The LA should be a self-starter and be very capable of communicating effectively with internal customers and co-workers at both the technical and non-technical levels.  The LA will participate in capacity planning, performance measurement, server and storage design.  The LA must have an in-depth, hands-on knowledge of a broad set of technologies and platforms, including the latest in virtualization, tiered storage, replication, Linux, VMware, EMC, HP, backup strategies, SAN design / DR Replication, etc.  The LA will be expected to lead or participate in one or more projects from planning to execution.  The LA will also have a key role in daily management of our data backup and offsite DR facility replication and readiness.  Possessing a high level of versatility is critical to the success of this position.  The LA will participate in on-call rotation approximately once every four weeks.

What you'll need
*         BS/BA required, other technical certifications are a plus.
*         5+ years of implementing and administering Linux-based systems with a focus on virtualized Red Hat Linux systems in 7x24 web operations/e-commerce environment.
*         Ability to work within a team environment.
*         Willing and able to perform on-call support.
*         Working knowledge of complex web hosting configuration components, including firewalls, load balancers, network protocols, web and database servers.
*         Well versed in Apache web server, JBOSS, Oracle VMWare
*         Ability to deploy, monitor and support web sites based on Apache, memcache, JBOSS
*         Ability to diagnose production issues and take corrective actions quickly.
*         Experience building automated backup, monitoring and alerts.
*         Experience with Awk, SEd, grep, find, NIS, winbind, Sendmail SNMP, Syslog.
*         Time management and organizational skills.
*         Strong Preference given to candidates with previous experience working in Sox and PCI compliant environments with:  Database: Oracle, RAC, MySQL, SQL Server.  Storage: EMC, Dell Compellent
What you have
*         Understanding of High Availability, Business Continuity, and Disaster Recovery concepts.
*         Ability to multi-task several mission critical tasks and projects with little supervision.
*         Familiarity with systems managing and monitoring tools such as: Nagios, cacti, SNMP based tools, splunk.
*         Familiarity with network design and management including performance metrics.
*         Must be willing to take ownership of issues and resolve them in a timely manner.
*         Highly analytical and problem solving capabilities.
*         Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
*         Strong organizational and project management skills.
*         Hands-on knowledge of scripting mechanisms using Perl and/or Shell is preferred.
