SYSTEMS ANALYST I- JOB DESCRIPTION (Requisition #722) *_

OVERALL RESPONSIBILITY

Manages scientific software and associated tools on the Broad Linux 
computing cluster. Consults with researchers and software engineers on 
the effective use of the computing cluster. Advises on available 
software tools and investigates and installs additional software 
packages as appropriate.

The ideal candidate will have direct experience in using common 
bioinformatics tools and a strong interest in learning more about 
large-scale computation.

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES

.Maintain domain-specific software collections and databases
.Evaluate requests for new software installations
.Help users automate routine repeated tasks through scripting or other means
.Assist in the development and delivery of user documentation and/or 
training
.Document administrative procedures and issue resolutions
.Perform off-hours work as required to accommodate production 
requirements or respond to high-priority service requests
.Other tasks as required

REQUIREMENTS

.Bachelor's degree in biology, computer science or other technical or 
scientific discipline with basic knowledge of IT computing systems
.0-2 years of related experience (SAGE level I*). This is the entry level.
.Basic hands-on experience with one or more of Windows, MacOS, or Linux 
at the user level
.Familiarity with command bioinformatics software strongly preferred
.Familiarity compiling open-source software on Linux or UNIX strongly 
preferred
.Good communication skills
