Principal Ops Engineer / Systems Architect / Infrastructure Manager

We are a young company with an established web presence in the
entertainment industry and are looking for a talented new member in our
operations team to help grow and maintain the site.

Skills Required:

- Solid Unix/Linux configuration & diagnostics: co-workers (current and
former) look to you for expertise.
- Experience using and troubleshooting a web stack: you've worked on a
web application that people use. (Modern multi-tier experience also
welcome.)
- Accustomed to thinking about performance, scaling, redundancy and
uptime: architecture impact and application failure modes are natural
considerations.

About Us:

We are a young, well-known, online Music company with a talented and
creative staff hungry to grow our site into a household name. We've
continuously grown the business while others in our space have fallen.
Players in the industry know we are one to watch. We impress our
partners with our ability to deliver. We enjoy what we do and the people
we work with.

About The Job:

Our new ops engineer will report directly to the VP of Operations and
share responsibility for the architecture and maintenance of our Q/A,
development and production environments. Each day will include the
opportunity to contribute to a strong technical team, solve challenging
technical problems and learn from and teach motivated co-workers.

About You:

You likely have experience doing some of the following:
- Configuring and tuning web servers, databases and load balancers.
- Monitoring systems and distributed applications.
- Troubleshooting performance and functional system and application
problems.
- Diagnosing and quantifying networking problems.
- Architecting highly-available production environments.
- Mentoring developers on production hardening of applications.
- Quantifying user browser problems with web applications.
- Transcoding music and video.

And you probably have direct production experience with some of the
following or related:
- Ruby on Rails
- PostgreSQL and MySQL
- Memcached
- Linux (bonus for Redhat or CentOS)
- Solaris (bonus for OpenSolaris or OpenIndiana)
- Haproxy
- Lighttpd
- ZFS

But most importantly you are a hungry, get-it-done, performance and
scale-oriented, 5-nines engineer with an appreciation for high quality
design and maintainable implementations. You will make a difference and
enjoy doing so. Your competence will inspire us. You've probably been
told you should blog about your work so that the rest of us can learn
from it. You are a digital native (regardless of whether you fit the
typical age). And you thrive in a start-up; at ease in a fast paced
environment where decisions are sometimes made with limited
information. You stand out as a generalist in a world of specialists.
