Job Title - Unix Administrator

Salary - $70,000 - $77,000

Location - Boston Area

 

Overview:

Sr. UNIX Administrator will be responsible for supporting servers and
storage in the UNIX technology team, installation, tuning, and maintenance
of the UNIX operating systems, third-party software, server hardware and
related peripherals. Responsibilities will be to perform system security,
backup, and recovery in these environments. Work closely with the rest of
the team and application development teams to troubleshoot and optimize the
environment and perform variety of the tasks under the general supervision
on the Sr. Manager, UNIX Technologies. 

 

RESPONSIBLITIES:

Install, maintain, and tune UNIX operating systems

Responsible for UNIX security and administration of users

Plan and perform installation, upgrades, and patches to UNIX OS

Optimize disk storage and manage disk space allocation

Responsible for troubleshooting printing operations

Develop procedures for backup and restore of the UNIX operating system and
databases

Provide performance analysis and tuning at OS level

Provide support for application development team for  debugging and
troubleshooting

Evaluate third-party software for UNIX environment; e.g., Legato and Veritas

Perform capacity planning and make recommendations

Analyze performance data and make recommendations

 

EDUCATION

Four-year degree preferred. A degree in Computer Science a plus

Computer Science course work at the graduate level a plus

Relevant Technical Certifications are preferred

 

EXPERIENCE

At least six years of technical support experience, of which at least three
years should be as a UNIX Systems Administrator

Experience with HP-UX 11i or Solaris 8/ 9 or 10 is a must

Experience with Oracle DB (9i, 10g) environment is very desirable

Experience with Oracle Application servers is very desirable

Experience with Oracle RAC and DB2 are plus 

 

SPECIAL SKILLS

In-depth knowledge of UNIX

In-depth knowledge of Enterprise Storage systems

Experience with Veritas Volume manager

Experience with HP Data protector and or Legato Networker 

Experience with large database environments

Requires very strong troubleshooting skills

Requires very good knowledge of TCP/IP and DNS
