System Administrator

Client is immediately seeking a Unix System Administrator to work in their
Corporate Technology team. The System Administrator will contribute to both
internal company support as well as company production services in multiple
locations. Internal company support responsibilities include proactive
support for infrastructure servers and networks. A vital role of this
position is to plan, automate, monitor, manage, and support company
production 24x7 systems, which include a growing EMC storage farm, backups,
and a Solaris, Linux and NT2000 application and compute farms. A focus on
system performance monitoring and tuning is vital. Travel to New York may be
required up to 10% of time.

Responsibilities:

Design and implement complex local-and wide-area networks of systems,
including managing disk/storage capacity, maintaining hardware, advising on
new hardware, etc.
Supporting Production and Development environments in a unix /NT
environment.
Maintaining Backups Schedules
Systems monitoring
Keeping up to date on patches and security updates
Maintain user accounts
Install and configure hardware and Operating System and patches.
Install and configure layered products, including but not limited to,
Firewall Software, Web Server, Compilers, Middleware products.
Scale and manage a large Solaris, NT2000, and Linux based compute farms.
Provide technical leadership. Identify, recommend, and justify major
purchase requirements.

Technical Requirements:

Unix Administration 5+ yrs. Solaris (7,8,9), Linux, NT
Veritas Netbackup, Volume Manager, Filesystem
A strong understanding of NIS, NFS, DNS, LDAP, DHCP, SMTP, IMAP, and TCP/IP
Extensive Apache Experience (Building, configuring, deploying, mod_perl,
mod_ssl, etc)
Experience administrating large numbers of servers
Ability to identify and implement tasks which require automation
Understands principles of routing, client-server programming, MQ series,
Webshere, Tomcat
HA/clustering product knowledge (Veritas).
Software packaging and distribution.
A minimum of 3 years managing Solaris environments with 100 or more hosts.
A minimum of 3 years managing Linux or NT environments with 50 or more
hosts.
Recommended Qualifications

BA/BS in Computer Science preferred. Must have strong inter-personal and
communication skills. Be capable of writing proposals or papers, acting as a
vendor liaison, and making presentations to customers, clients and peers.
Needs to have the ability to solve problems quickly and completely and
should have experience in programming in C, Perl, Java, or shell.
